Hey ECXers!
Take a moment to breathe. Now, read the title again. See what I did there? Just a little wordplay to welcome you into the second quarter of the year the right way!
Another thing I want to do is to test the hypothesis that there are 7 types of people reading this newsletter; yes, 7 types.
The first: 100-level students who are pumped to begin the new academic phase and are taking in every moment like a newborn. They will write exams soon, and they will witness the upgrade from other levels of learning.
The second: 200-level students that get irks when they are called “advanced freshers”. They are likely in a state of panic because they’ll soon have to dance to the tune of UNILAG’s exam.
The third: 300-level students who are attacking other fields of life because they now see the light and the truth.
The fourth: 400-level students who aren’t finalists and can’t believe they still have one more year to go. These ones are likely in search of IT placements as we speak. They envy their friends who are in the same level, but are finalists.
The fifth: 400-L finalists and 500-L students who can’t wait to wrap up their final semester. Most of them already know what they are graduating with. Life has properly dawned on these ones.
The sixth: Most recent graduates and alumni: They might have recently realized how vast and confusing the world is, and are making their path. Some feel great nostalgia about the past, some don’t have the time for that. Some aren’t in Nigeria, either.
The seventh: Entrepreneurs. These guys? Omo, they are at the forefront of the smiling or frowning economy.
Wherever you stand, life comes at you fast. I can tell you that because I am also somewhere in the 7 types. For every type of person listed above, it's normal to feel overwhelmed. But here's the thing…YOU'VE GOT THIS!
Take a deep breath, grab a snack or two or three, and recall why you started in the first place. Your goals, your passions, your dreams—remember, they are all worth fighting for!
Meanwhile, while you folks were out there cooking, we at ECX were equally putting our culinary expertise to work, and we’ve simply…cooked! Here's the dish 👇

Shout-out to Motunrayo Sanyaolu, an Electrical Engineering student at UNILAG, whose passion for innovation sets her apart. While juggling studies and exams, she made a name as an inventor and published a 52-page book last year, inspiring over 100 students to embrace innovation. That’s a lot! This newsletter isn’t even five pages long, and I’m already feeling the heat. Her goal? Bridging the gap in engineering education and helping students rediscover their engineering spirit.
Her story is a reminder that innovation isn’t just about ideas; it’s about solving real problems. Across the world, teams are doing just that. At the University of Edinburgh, researchers recently developed an AI-powered coffee-making robot designed to operate in busy kitchens. Unlike traditional robots that function best in controlled environments, this invention uses advanced motor skills and AI to adapt to real-time obstacles, marking a breakthrough in robotics.
Outside the tech space, Kylian Mbappe is close to setting a record at Real Madrid for the highest number of goals in a debut season. Man like Kylian! That guy has some legs on him. The 17-year-old wonderkid, Lamine Yamal (No, it isn’t Yamine Lamal), is also living up to the hype.
Now, let’s 👇
Hack the Tech Life
Beyond engineering marvels, adapting to technological changes in everyday life is just as important. With the way things have transitioned in the age we're in, there seem to be more online meetings than physical ones. Whether you work, learn, or plan events remotely, there are times when you have to attend these meetings in public places. Of course, you knew that already. Sometimes, stating the obvious is refreshing.
With Teams and Zoom, you can meet from your house, a coffee shop, the car, or anywhere you happen to be. Unfortunately, the results can be noisy or unprofessional. But there are ways to maintain good audio and video quality while meeting in public. Here's how 👇
Both platforms have built-in noise suppression. In Teams, go to Settings > Devices > Noise cancellation and increase it in noisy environments. In Zoom, adjust Background Noise Suppression under Settings > Audio > Audio Profile - Zoom optimized audio.
To reduce visual distractions, use a virtual background and sit with your back to a wall. You could set the background to be that of a beach, the Statue of Liberty, anything. Just do you.
